We want your thoughts on an idea we've had about launching a race series aimed specifically at trackday drivers.

MotorSport Vision is committed to getting more people into racing and the obvious target audience are those who are already taking part in trackdays.

There is no denying that motorsport costs money, although it's not nearly as expensive as most people might believe and if those costs can be shared, it makes the prospect of racing much more financially viable. This is one of the reasons why we are considering launching a mini endurance series for 2010, for teams of two drivers.

An initial outline of the concept is below but we would like to hear your thoughts and ideas on whether you would be interested and what you might like to see as part of this series should it go ahead. Send us an email at clubmsvracing@motorsportvision.co.uk and let us know what you think and what car you might consider entering.

Club MSV Endurance Racing - Introduction

We want this to be an affordable, relaxed and fun series that attracts trackday and novice racing drivers. By drawing on our resources we can offer a one-stop shop with everything that new drivers need to get them on the grid, including driver training and an ARDS test to get an MSA racing license.

We would also like to offer drivers that enter the series additional help in the lead up to the first race, including:

Novice Test Day - we want to host a "novice" test day aimed at new racing drivers with instructors on hand throughout the day to help and answer any questions as well as hosting classroom sessions on car preparation. We could provide scrutineers who would be available to give advice on any improvements / additions that you might need to make to your car prior to your first race. There could also be the opportunity to practice 'racing starts' during the lunch hour.

Race Event Guided Tour - we may also offer a day where you can shadow a racing driver, showing you the format of a race day from signing on, scrutineering, qualifying and the race itself so you know exactly what to expect come race day.

Provisional Car Regulations

  • Cars must be over 10 years old.
  • Cars must meet MSA safety requirements - roll-cage, cut off switches, towing eyes, fire system etc.
  • Tyres - this will not be a one make series but slicks will not be allowed.

Beyond the above, we'd generally prefer to keep regulations to a minimum in year one so that trackday drivers who have already developed their cars without regulations in mind can take part. However, there would be a class system, probably based on power to weight ratio.

Race Format

The following sessions would all take place on one day to keep costs to a minimum:

  • 30 minutes practice / qualifying
  • 45 minute or possibly 1 hour race with mandatory driver change within a mid-race, half distance window. If a driver is competing alone, they must complete a pit-stop
  • No fuel stops allowed

Entry Costs

Approximately £400 inc VAT per car for the above, depending on the circuit. Possible series of 6 races - Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Cadwell Park, Silverstone etc. No championship points but trophies for each race, plus some others for fun.

Suggested cars:

Peugeot 106, Peugeot 205, Peugeot 306, Citroen Saxo, Golf GTI, BMW E30, Mazda MX5, Porsche 924, Porsche 944, Toyota MR2, Renault Clio and anything else that you can get on the grid for about £3,000!

Please let us know your thoughts or register your interest by emailing us at clubmsvracing@motorsportvision.co.uk and let us know what car you might consider entering.

The Club MSV team also own a Porsche 944 which is currently being converted into a trackday car (for full details CLICK HERE). We hope that our project will be finished in the new year and ready to enter into our new series so we'll hopefully be racing alongside you!
