Come bike racing with Club MSV

This concept of the Bike Trackday Trophy is now a reality! Check out www.biketrackdaytrophy.co.uk for more information.

We're launching a bike race series aimed specifically at trackday riders and we want your thoughts and feedback!

As the in-house trackday division for MotorSport Vision, we are regularly asked by our trackday riders how to go racing. Conventionally there have been several hurdles into the sport, so we are now starting a race series for trackday riders and novice racers that makes it as easy as possible to go racing.

Our primary goal will be to help new riders to get onto the grid but we also want to ensure that the series is as much fun for all involved - something we feel can get lost in the ultra-competitive world of club racing.

Having discussed the idea with a number of trackday riders, potential competitors, and other relevant parties with bike racing experience, we have an initial outline for the series shown below. However, we want to hear from interested riders about what they might like to see from the series and we have therefore set up an online survey here where you can offer us your feedback.

If you would also like to register your interest in the series then please enter your details at www.clubmsv.co.uk/register (don't forget to click the checkbox - 'Going Bike Racing') and we'll keep you updated with all the latest information about the plans for the series.

The Series

We want this to be an affordable, relaxed and fun series that attracts trackday and novice racing riders. By drawing on our resources we can offer a one-stop shop with everything that new riders need to get them on the grid, including rider training and an ACU test to get an ACU race licence.

We will offer riders that enter the series additional help in the lead up to the first race starting with a Novice Test Day where we will have instructors on hand throughout the day to help and answer any questions as well as hosting classroom sessions on bike preparation. There could also be the opportunity to practice 'racing starts' during the lunch hour.

Bike Regulations and Equipment Requirements

Bikes

Equipment

Bikes must meet ACU safety requirements:

  • Oil catch tank
  • Bike must be lock-wired (front and rear brake callipers, oil filter, oil filler cap and oil sump screw)
  • Only water permitted in the radiators (no coolant)
  • Sprocket guard
  • Frame and engine numbers must be visible
  • Full details on ACU technical regulations can be found by CLICKING HERE (see page 296)
  • Slick tyres will not be permitted.

All riders must have:

  • ACU approved crash helmet
  • One piece leathers
  • Dog tags (as per ACU regulations)
Beyond the above, we'd generally prefer to keep regulations to a minimum in year one so that trackday riders who have already developed their bikes without regulations in mind can take part.

Hopefully see you on the grid in 2012!
